How To Do Skin Care For Children With Eczema

Eczema, a common skin condition, particularly affects infants and children, causing symptoms like dryness, itching, swelling, and rashes, leading to discomfort and distress. Proper care and moisturization are essential for managing eczema. Here are some key tips for eczema care:

  • Bathe in water below 32°C to prevent exacerbating eczema.
  • Avoid using soap or body wash; clean water is sufficient. Use body wash only for areas like armpits, groin, and feet if heavily soiled.
  • Avoid vigorous scrubbing to prevent stripping the skin of its natural oils and epidermis.
  • For scalp eczema, wash hair with clean water as shampoo can strip the scalp's oils.
  • After bathing, apply moisturizing lotion. The oilier the lotion, the better the moisturizing effect; the lighter, the lesser.
  • Remember "Ointment," "Cream," and "Lotion," in decreasing order of oiliness. Use "Cream" during the day and "Ointment" at night for better moisturizing.
  • During acute flare-ups, apply steroid cream before moisturizing.
  • Moisturize more frequently in winter and less in summer. A 200ml bottle of lotion should last a month; otherwise, you're not moisturizing enough.
  • Choose well-known brands specializing in hypoallergenic, fragrance-free products for moisturizing.

Proper eczema care not only alleviates symptoms but also enhances the child's quality of life. By moisturizing, avoiding irritants, and using medications correctly, eczema flare-ups can be effectively managed. Regular medical check-ups and adherence to doctor's advice are also crucial.

We hope these tips help you manage eczema effectively for a healthier, more comfortable life.
